much will it cost too reduce the radon level in the house that I am trying to sell. On the other hand
many times it is the buyer who calls and the first thing they want to know is,
“Should I buy this house that has radon in it?”
or “How bad is the New Jersey radon issue?” All are good questions. We have put the following tips together
to help with these all-important subjects. |

| Should I still buy the house with elevated levels of radon? Yes, radon is not that big a deal. Of course you want to get the levels below the state guideline for radon, but again that is not a big deal. TOP |
| Can all radon be reduced to 4.0 pCi/l of less by using current radon mitigation methods? In most cases the answer to that question is yes. But, I hasten to point out that to get a broader answer to this all important radon question contact our office at 800-872-7236. Yes, there are some houses that carry a certain degree of difficulty in reducing the radon level. Mostly these houses are older homes with French drains behind walls, or areas that cannot be gotten into, such as low dirt crawl spaces (a great source for radon). Stonewall foundations are another major problem when it comes to radon mitigation. Anytime you have French drains behind walls or dirt areas that have to be sealed to prevent radon from entering the structure the price for radon mitigation can rise considerably. TOP |
| If one radon measurement (test) is high should I do a radon measurement retest? N.J.D.E.P guidelines are to do a follow-up radon measurement. Call 800-872-7236 for pricing. Most often prices for a radon measurement is around $95.00. If you need an initial test we can also conduct a radon measurement for you as well. TOP |
| How do I go about getting an initial radon measurement?
To secure an initial New Jersey radon measurement for your home or commercial building just call 800-872-7236. Most often we will be able to arrange for the test to be done the same day you call. If you are a Day Care in N.J. Consolidated Radon heads up the New Jersey Day Care Radon Project. |
| What kind of radon mitigation
system is used and what is it called? Most often you will end up with what is called a radon sub-slab soil depressurization system, Of course most folks just call it a radon venting system (fan system). The radon system sucks the radon from under the building and vents it to the outdoors. TOP |
| One radon mitigation company told me I needed a pumping system? The word “pump” is just an electrician’s term for a fan. TOP |
| How do New Jersey radon
mitigation companies come up with their prices? A good rule of thumb would be the following, $1000.00 for the radon mitigation (vent) system, consisting of one suction point (each radon suction point can reach out about 40 to 45 feet). Things that add to the price are French Drains, crawl spaces, open sump pump pits, and the need for additional suction points. TOP |
| How do I get a FREE
estimate from Consolidated Radon? Call us at 800-872-7236. As a state licensed New Jersey radon mitigation company, as well as a New Jersey radon measurement company Consolidated Radon holds all the necessary licenses to conduct radon testing and radon mitigation within the State of New Jersey. Estimates for radon mitigation are free and an important part of the process. All radon estimates must be in writing. Radon work is very formal in the State of New Jersey. All radon systems require a permit from the local town. TOP |
| After a radon mitigation
installation how do I know if the radon mitigation system is working? All New Jersey radon mitigation systems must be retested as part of the radon mitigation process. There is never an addition charge for the radon measurement retest. There is NO tax on radon mitigation systems. Radon systems carry gauges that indicate if they are operational. TOP |
| My house is pre-piped for radon mitigation, what will just a fan cost? The N.J.D.E.P now considers a fan only radon mitigation instillation as a full radon system. As such even a fan carries state and local fees. Most radon mitigation companies will charge a minimum of $595. Also consider that many pre-piped houses are pre-piped wrong. Yes, I know sounds silly, but most are pre-piped wrong. If the radon mitigation pre-piping is wrong assume that the price will jump to over $1000 real fast. TOP |
